    -Yankee Racers-
    "American Music"

"...for American Music, Brewer and Jatcko strip back both the music and the overall approach, and while the album's name serves as a sleight of hand on the title track, it also defines the folk- and jazz-flecked approach to these acoustic songs.

"Brewer, perhaps best known as the fiery lead guitarist for the blues/noir bar band Kentucky Knife Fight (to which Jatcko often contributes), shows his deft fingerpicking and dulcet banjo plucks here. On "What It Takes" the music takes the form of a circular folk ballad, laying a simple melodic bed for Brewer's searching lyrics and capable, if somewhat strained, vocals."

"The twinkling waltz of "Stealing Romance," a Milk Carton Kids cover, borrows some of that duo's style with harmonized vocals and Brewer's pinpoint guitar solo."

Jamie 03:24
You don't have to feel so down when the grey curtain falls The cold air blowing in surrounded by your creaking walls You can't get enough of what you give away You can't understand what it means to say All the words that I've held in so long Slow it down, there's still time I never thought that you would feel this way, Jamie Slow it down, why do you cry Things will never be as they were yesterday Spring will melt away the snow gray always turns back to blue The warm air blowing in Leave these walls surrounding you Leave these walls surround you Slow it down, there's still time I never thought that you would feel this way, Jamie Slow it down, why do you cry Things will never be as they were yesterday Tonight is all we need to know... You can't get enough of what you give away You can't understand what it means to say All the words that I've held in so long

Burning my brains out, baby You've been tearing my heart out lately While your all so terrified I'm telling you I ain't crazy I don't want to throw down But you're so fed up and I'm cashing in This new year I'm making a bet That the devil's done waiting yeah I'm sure of that He's got a double barrel shot, locked and load Yeah , he's a real sharp shooter, you ain't coming back I don't want to go down Cause you're so fed up and I'm cashing in Paper on the table saying "Stay in school" I got a moonlight mouth, four tires and a spare Smoking cigarettes till I'm 23 When are all my babies coming back to me I don't want to go down Yeah, but Jack's getting busy with the queen of hearts Burning my brains out, baby And you've been tearing my heart out lately

For Ever 05:10
I still believe those first words that came to my mind You are the first woman I can look straight in the eyes And in our lives, we silenced time together We gained years from losing fears of living a life for another Lay down, this is our moment Just you and me and forever I'm yours, your mine together Nothing to do, nothing to say But stay drunk on dreams in infinite ways We can live like this for ever No sounds can silence what we hear in our hearts When love like ours is unending, unending from the start Time's meant less than wounds we've dressed together Distance now has lost its power of keeping us from each other Lay down, this is our moment Just you and me and forever I'm yours, your mine together Nothing to say, nothing to do But stay drunk on dreams of infinite youth We can live like this for ever We will live like this for ever Last night I had the most amazing dream I listened to your heartbeat as I drifted into sleep And in this dream, I saw a distant home Blurred from years of weathering each and every storm Inside this home, I saw us drinking wine You silver hair was matching all the whitened strands of mine We had our salt and our bread throughout the years We can live this dream for ever, ever, ever With you, you, you. With you.

Youngin' 03:24
When we were young, no one knew Exactly what would happen to you Like a bend in the stream, just out of sight Like a highway sign in the dead of the night I can't plan it You can't stand it, can you? That I'm on the outside And you're dreaming of a life anew When we were young, they were old You saw no sense in doing what you were told Like a distant station on the radio We went as far as we could go I can't plan it You can't stand it, can you? That I'm on the outside And you're dreaming of a life anew Oh, it's not that I'm giving in We'll fight thoughtless again Oh, exiles no way to win You don't want them to get by You want them to live again Can't plan it I can't stand it, can you? That I'm on the outside And I'm dreaming of a life And you're living that life Dreaming of a life I knew

I'm so far from innocence It's regrettable looking back All I failed to do, all the knowledge that I lack Asking those outside our door "Would one care for an encore?" Expecting applause when we messed it up before All the times I cut you off Rolled up the windows as I laughed American music is all I can give back In older days I'd be a nationalist For all I know of my country In modern times, am I a fascist For not knowing that there could be Any of the way to live Is it that our poverty is perspective Living in the richest country in the world Drinking coffee in my cup of foam No knowing where it was grown If love is blind, isn't what you reap not your own? All my features in the mirror Seem to have lost their first home American music is all I've ever know In older days I'd be a nationalist For all I know of my country In modern times, am I a fascist For not knowing that there could be Any of the way to live Is it that our poverty is perspective Living in the richest country in the world All eyes are on we the people To rise and live ideally again Our lives begin at inspection So we must correct our day And dissect the ways of all we've ever known I'm so far from innocence It's regrettable knowing that American music is all I can give back In older days I'd be a nationalist For all I know of my country In modern days, I'd be a fascist for not thinking that there could be Any of the way to live Now I see that our poverty is perspective Living in the richest country No we're not the richest country No we're not the richest country...in the world

I get away stealing romance From those who have left it behind I'll be the step in your slow dance This time Why feel foolish? we're smiling A grade school romance with wine I'll be the tick-tock in your wristwatch Be mine A break in the rain that's real Nothing's the same and still Like home life Fall in the park under rain clouds A shot in the dark for a kiss A heart to restore to an old life To miss I get away stealing romance I've come by it fairly, it's true There's grace and a smile and a slow dance And you

Did I start too late on this record breaking endeavor Would I come off clever if I had never said never Is that what it takes, is that what it takes? I've lost all my stock in getting took and being bought I have plenty to sell, well, as far as I can tell That's my take, yeah that's my take What if it just hasn't happenend yet, will I come any nearer To leaving the mirror, looking into better years Is my best bet leaving this town? Push another year or settle down? I've never been good at letting you down So save your goodbyes, I will come back around Dreams do try to fade but I keep them out to late Keep them close when it's night chase them off where I think it's right That's my stake, yeah that's my stake I won't walk this alone like those big fish tellers Providence be lost, provenance at a cost That's what it takes, that's what's at stake Good and evil were just high school sweethearts I may have my mother's eyes but I won't live my father's life Is my best bet leaving this town? Push another year or settle down? I've never been good at letting you down I've never been good at letting you down So save your goodbyes, I will come back around Wear my heart, wear my heart right on my sleeve Cause it means, yeah it means that much to me Is my best bet leaving this town? Push another year or settle down? I've never been good at letting you down I've never been good at letting you down So save your goodbyes, I will come back Save your goodbyes, I will come back...around
